COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--Aug. 8--The Colorado Springs retail boom is about to shift into high gear as retailing giants Wal-Mart, Stein Mart, Circuit City and Walgreen all open stores by the end of the month.
More than 1 million square feet of retail space is under construction to provide everything from avocados to videocassette recorders to the fast-growing city. Much of that space will be completed in the next two months as retailers rush to open before the pivotal holiday season.
"Retailers typically want to open new stores at the end of summer or early fall so they can be ready for the Christmas season," said Mark Useman, an agent with Palmer McAllister Co. ...
