Turkey attracted bids totaling $568.5 million on Thursday in two power grid sale tenders as part of a drive to liberalize the energy sector and push the country s privatization program forward.

Turkish group Alsim Alarko submitted the highest bid, $440 million, to operate the Meram electricity grid in central Turkey. In a subsequent tender, large retail group Kiler submitted the highest bid, $128.5 million, for the Aras electricity grid in eastern Turkey.

Alsim Alarko submitted its bid yesterday to buy the state-owned Meram electricity distribution corporation, serving Kirsehir, Nevsehir, Nigde, Aksaray, Konya and Karaman. ...
