Online content and services for Internet-capable game consoles will generate over $8 billion globally for Microsoft, Sony and Ninetendo, the three console manufacturers, in 2013, according to Parks Associates' new report. Microsoft is currently leading the market, thanks largely to the Xbox Live service.

This revenue will come from digital video distribution, downloadable games, virtual world and in-game transactions, multiplayer gaming services and subscriptions and in-game advertisements.
