LIVERPOOL FC may have taken the honours on the pitch in Saturday's derby, but the city itself was a winner off it.

The first Liverpool Unites derby saw the parents of Rhys Jones celebrate his birthday on the pitch at Goodison Park by accepting a pounds 100,000 cheque.

Everton fanatic Rhys would have turned 13 on Saturday, and his death last year was the catalyst for the formation of the Liverpool Unites charity.

After close to a year of huge fundraising efforts, the charity reached the target needed to help build the Rhys Jones Community Centre, in Croxteth Park, in his memory.
