Susan Boiko, M.D., a pediatric dermatologist, recently presented the lowdown on diapers to her colleagues at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology. Here are a few of the highlights.
Landfill Myths: Disposable diapers make up only one to two percent of landfill contents, not the 50% often cited in the popular press. According to Dr. Boiko, "If you recycle your newspapers, you more than make up for using disposable diapers."
Quick Changes: If a child's diapers can't be changed fairly soon after being wet or soiled, disposables are better than cloth ones. Disposables can hold moisture away from children's skin, thus lessen the chances of ...
