The stunning scenery and wildlife of Victoria Falls make it irresistable to tourists but the industry is growing at a rate which threatens the site itself. ANDREW MELDRUM reports on steps to control the clash between man and nature.
The overwhelming spectacle of the mile-wide Zambezi River hurtling over a chasm of 99 meters was once the main attraction to Victoria Falls. Visitors were happy to gaze at this while enjoying the surrounding rain forest and wealth of African wildlife. Today, things have changed. White water rafting, bunjee jumping, gambling, golfing, helicopter trips and crocodile farms have combined to make a site for big business.
