Today, in honor of Mexican Independence day, the world's greatest speed eaters competed in the annual La Costena Feel the Heat Jalapeno Eating Championship Challenge in Chicago. Bertoletti won La Costena jalapeno eating championship by eating 127 whole jalapeno in eight minutes (see also La Costena).
Speed eating hundreds of whole jalapenos is considered by many to be the most grueling and entertaining sanctioned event on the Major League Eating circuit. More than 30,000 people witnessed La Costena's annual gastronomical competition, which has become a premiere attraction at the annual Chicago Mexican Independence Day festival.
