NEW YORK - Chain drug stores have maintained a steady share of the hair accessories market, capturing 25% of the category's sales for each of the past three years.

While discounters have made inroads in the product segment, they have been made at the expense of supermarkets as opposed to drug chains. And category sales across all trade classes were up 3.5% last year to $880 million.

Keen competition among accessories suppliers gives drug chains a range of lines to choose from. Manufacturers vying for placement on chain drug shelves include Goody Products Inc., Karina Inc. and Wilhold, as well as Scunci, a division of L&N Sales and Marketing Inc.
