There are two kinds of hairbrushes: Styling, which help create a hairstyle by adding volume or curl, and grooming, which are used to smooth, tame, and "finish" the hair. Styling brushes are usually made of synthetic materials that can withstand exposure to heat and styling products; grooming brushes contain a high percentage of natural boar bristles, which help impart shine by distributing the scalp's own oils.
