Turkey's Ottoman emperors were giving luxury a 24 carat gold name with a bearskin finish long before foothallers were installing home cinemas in their basements and 10-car garages next to their swimming pools. In 1843, not content with the stunning Topkapi Palace, Sultan Abdut Mecit commissioned imperial architects to construct a new a palace on the coast of the Bosphorous in the Besiktas area of Istanbul.
