Aug. 22--Four of the most widely known names in the hotel industry Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt and ITT Sheraton are key members of development teams competing to build the city's next 1,000-room hotel, city officials said Wednesday.
The four development teams want to be selected by City Council to build the hotel, expected to cost between $120 million and $180 million, by 2001, to coincide with the completion of the Convention Center expansion.
The site of the hotel is tentatively set along Market Street adjacent to and north of the Lila Cockrell Theater. It will occupy space now partially taken by a parking garage that is being demolished.
