MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and OSAKA, Japan, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Scios Inc. (Nasdaq: SCIO) and Shionogi & Co., Ltd. today announced the introduction in Japan of the first blood test for the diagnosis and monitoring of congestive heart failure (CHF). Shionogi is marketing the test, which is based on the detection of BNP (b-type natriuretic peptide) levels in the blood, for use in hospital patients with acute heart failure or acute exacerbation of chronic heart failure. Shionogi developed the test under a license from Scios for the use of BNP antigen in Japan.
