Researchers at UCLA have found that the ancient Chinese martial art known as Tai chi chih could help older adults sleep better or get to asleep without resorting to potentially harmful or expensive medications. The research team was headed by Dr. Michael Erwin, a professor of psychiatry and of behavioral science at UCLA's Geffen School of Medicine.

The researchers studied 112 basically healthy adults aged 59 to 86 who were randomly assigned to one of two groups during the 25 week study period. Group one practiced tai chi, group two went to classes on stress management, diet and advice on how best to get to sleep and stay asleep. ...
