Exports from the European Union of mercury and products made from mercury will be totally bannedfrom 1 March 2011. The EU Council of Ministers, gathered in Brussels on 25 September, formally adopted a regulation to this effect, thereby ratifying the agreement made between the Council and the European Parliament and approved by the latter on 21 May. The regulation will come into force on 1 January 2010.
Other than the total ban on exports from the EU, the regulation sets out that from the same date, the mercury which will no longer be used by the chlor-alkali industry, as well as the mercury obtained from the purification of natural gas or the production of ...
