As the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB) approach the Oct. 1 deadline for their Clean Trucks Program, banning 1988 and older trucks from entering and leaving the ports, two new trucks orders have been awarded to Volvo and Mack Trucks.
Under the Clean Trucks Program, more than 16,000 trucks serving the POLA and POLB will be replaced with newer, cleaner trucks. The initial phase bans trucks from model year 1988 and older from entering and leaving the port. By 2012, all 2006 and older trucks will be banned from the ports and replaced by a new fleet, which the POLA and the POLB expect to reduce truck-related pollution by 80%.
