First Line's SWEDE Basic Cooling Vest--which incorporates PhaseCore cooling technology to address heat stress--utilizes a non-toxic, non-flammable phase-change salt blend cooling packets.

"When solid, the packets are fully charged," company President Amit Kapoor says. "But when a certain temperature is reached, they're activated and start absorbing heat, producing a cooling effect." PhaseCore 28 activates at 82 degrees Fahrenheit (F) and cools down to 72 F. PhaseCore 32 activates at 90 F and cools down to about 82 F.
