Although by definition, solid waste would appear to be and often is something to be disposed of, the philosophic expression, "one man's trash is another man's treasure" influences the definition. Furthermore, to protect the environment and the public health, waste may require treatment before disposal. In addition, natural transformation, space limitations, disposal site locations, the utility of sites used for disposal, and economics are all factors that affect decisions regarding solid waste management.
