Avis Meyer, longtime adviser to the student newspaper at Saint Louis University, did not challenge a ban on his entering the newsroom of The University News this fall when classes resumed. He knew his status as a tenured professor might be at risk from an administration he believes wants to fire him.
But the student journalists praised Meyer as their "friend and mentor" in an editorial (Aug. 28, U.News) that criticized the administration of SLU's president, the Rev. Lawrence Biondi.
