Dvorak called Rusalka his "lyric fairytale," filling his own telling of the story of the little water sprite with some of the most lush, vibrant music he ever wrote. Even though the opera has never quite made it into the mainstream of the repertoire, it can, in the right hands, offer a rare and evocative experience, as it did in early April in a new production by Minnesota Opera, the finale of the company's 45 th season.
