ASTHMA is one of the most common chronic diseases, affecting more than 300 million people worldwide. It is characterised by recurrent breathing problems and symptoms such as breathlessness, wheezing, chest tightness and coughing. Asthma symptoms vary over time and from individual to individual.
Rugby hero Schalk Burger says experience has taught him to take care of himself, control his asthma and lead a normal life.
He says in his role as asthma ambassador he hopes to enhance the quality of life for patients with asthma and decrease asthma-related morbidity and mortality by increasing public awareness about the disease.
