NIKKEI NET:
- The benchmark Nikkei Stock Average fell for the sixth straight day Thursday, closing down 45.83 points, or 0.50 per cent, at 9,157.49, the lowest level since June 2003.
- Japan's core machinery orders in August fell by a seasonally adjusted 14.5 per cent from the previous month to 891.7 billion yen, according to Cabinet Office data released on Thursday.
