Almost three years ago the american Crop Protection Association (Washington) held a board meeting at which members were discussing the value of electronic data interchange (EDI) for information flow in the industry. A distributor asked what benefits others were getting from EDI--because he sure was not getting any.
"We realized that if the distributors weren't getting any benefit, then the manufacturers wouldn't be either," says Jerry Quinn, v.p. of Zeneca Ag Products (Wilm-ington, DE) and president of Responsible Agricultural Product and Information Database (Rapid; Washington).
