Domestic peanut oil supply to exceed consumption in 2008

Shanghai. October 9. INTERFAX-CHINA - China's peanut oil supply is estimated to exceed actual domestic demand in 2008, although authorities claim domestic vegetable oil supply is still tight, according to a report by a state-run Web site.

China's peanut production is expected to increase by 6 percent from last year to 13.8 million tons this autumn harvest, and around 2.1 million tons of peanut oil will be produced from 7 million tons of peanuts. The majority of peanut oil produced, around 1.4 million tons, will be exported, leaving the other 700,000 tons for domestic consumption.
