NEW YORK -- September is turning out to be the month of the Europeans.
The first designer to touch ground here is Gianfranco Ferre, who arrived Thursday morning on the Concorde to a packed schedule at Saks Fifth Avenue's flagship that included a fur show, a fragrance bottle signing, a lunch for press and customers, interviews and even a few business appointments.
He'll be followed within two weeks by Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Emanuel Ungaro, John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, Jil Sander and Donatella Versace -- all here to try to expand their empires in America's designer-friendly market.
