Ever since I moved to Los Angeles, my friends and family from Northern California have been looking at me like the victim of a tragic equestrian accident.

Just because they have redwoods and vine-covered hills and air you can't see, they have this annoyingly superior attitude. I know so much about it because I used to have it, too. L.A., I used to think, was a playground of the lost and superficial, a polluted Gehenna by the Beach with parking lots for freeways and a sea of asphalt and stucco that stretches on seemingly forever.
