Wellington Reiter' Island Culture, grand in scale and meticulously crafted, was a 2,500-square-foot fantasy diorama that paid homage to Boston Harbor's original 41 islands. The re-created islands, carved of Styrofoam and painted pale green, white, yellow or blue, rose high from a "watery" expanse of blue-painted Styrofoam panels into which exaggerated swirling currents were incised and upon which tiny buoys and channel markers were set. Each tall island, like a pedestal, held artifacts and was spotlighted by its own sleek little halogen fixture.
