Green design can help redeem the planet, create humane environments, and save money, but, today at least, the greatest of these is saving money. According to John Picard, president of [E.sup.2], the Los Angeles environmental outfit that advises the likes of Sony, Prince Street and the Gap, green design is usually initiated by the client or somebody in the client's office, nine out of ten times because it is a cost cutter.
