How do you top a new products performance like the one turned in during 1995?

By most accounts, you don't. The past 6 months have seen the universe of new products come back down to earth following a quantum leap the previous year when the final head count on new releases in 1995 was a prolific 16,863.

A down scaling was probably inevitable following what industry experts called a "banner" year, and that's precisely what has occurred. Midway through 1996, new products introductions stood at 6,428, down 12% from the same time last year, according to Lynn Dornblaser, publisher and editor of New Product News.
