NEW YORK - Managed care has drastically altered the economics of the drug industry in just five years, but the new low-cost focus has not hurt pharmaceutical manufacturers.
That is the essence of the findings of a market analysis by IMS America Ltd., based on prescription tracking from 1991 through 1995.
"As third-party dollars and scripts continue to rise, cash payments continue to plummet," says Mark Gianforcaro, IMS' marketing director for managed care services.
