Students of modem Russian political history will welcome Dr. Rawson's monograph on the Russian right as a valued addition to a field which until recently was largely ignored by western and even Russian scholarship. As Dr. Rawson's work demonstrates, rightists constituted a considerable popular political force in the Russian empire, especially during the revolutionary years from 1905 to 1907, notwithstanding their complete final failure in 1917. A better appreciation of the part played by rightists in the events of the last Tsar's reign can only assist historians in gaining a fuller understanding of the destructive forces at work.
