Young city is now giant in golf, high tech

CARLSBAD - Coronado has its Hotel Del and its beaches, Sorrento Mesa has its high-tech industries, and San Diego has its theme parks. But Carlsbad has all three, or will when Lego Family Park comes on-line in 1999.

A young city chartered in 1952, Carlsbad has grown from a bedroom suburb of 30,000 in the 1970s to a full-fledged city of nearly 70,000 today.
