According to a survey recently released by the International Data Corporation (IDC), the personal computer market in the U.S. showed an impressive rate of growth in the second quarter of the year. The figures surprised some industry observers and allayed fears of a slowdown in computer shipments.
Compaq maintained its number one spot, despite experiencing a slight drop in its market share due to changes introduced into its product lines. IBM produced an impressive performance during the quarter, enabling it to regain its Top Five spot as a result of strong portable equipment sales and shipments of new products.
