A FEW weeks ago we were doing a nerve-racking cookery demonstration at the Abergavenny Food Festival. Minutes before going on stage I always ask myself why I ever agreed to it. But when it's all over, and the applause and compliments are given, I feel on a high.

This time I had something more to look forward to: lunch at our friend Stephen Terry's gastropub, The Hardwick.

Steve is one of the best chefs in the country - he was second chef at Marco Pierre White's SAS kitchen at Harveys, with Gordon Ramsay as his assistant.

He has done all the fancy food and followed latest trends, but now at his great pub he serves ...
