DURING THE LAST week of August, Zain International became the third mobile telephone operator in Saudi Arabia, joining STC and Mobily in providing a network for the GCC region's largest population and arguably its most lucrative market.
It was the latest step in the Zain Group's remarkable transition from being a single mobile provider in Kuwait, when it was formed by its parent company Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) in 1983, to today being one of the most significant mobile telecoms companies in the world.
