Sep. 18--Norwest Corp., in the midst of a buying spree in Texas, announced another purchase Tuesday -- Central Bancorporation Inc., the largest independent bank in the Dallas-Forth Worth region and fourth-largest in the state.
Texas has quickly become Norwest's second biggest state and may well be its most important, according to Ben Crabtree, a securities analyst with Dain Bosworth. But while Crabtree was not surprised that Norwest continues to expand in Texas, he was surprised at Norwest's choice of markets within Texas.
