One of the members in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) not to have suffered a big fall in petroleum production since the collapse of the Soviet Union in late 1991, Uzbekistan's output of oil and condensates this year is expected to average between 90,000-95,000 b/d, down from 100,000 b/d in 2007 and 111,000 b/d in 2006. This compares to 120,000 b/d in 2005, 141,000 b/d in 2004 and 55,000 b/d in 1985. Uzbek crude oil and condensate production peaked at 191,000 b/d in 1998 and 1999. Uzbekistan, however, is a gas-prone country and its production of natural gas in 2008 is to average 66.8 BCM/y, up from 65.3 BCM/y in 2007, 61 BCM/y in 2006 and 42 BCM/y in 1993, ...
