The National Guard Association rated the state Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing the best flying unit in the Air National Guard.
Colonel Anthony German, commander of the 109th, accepted the Spaatz Trophy on behalf of the unit stationed at the Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia. Lt. Gen. Craig McKinley, Air National Guard director, presented the award to German during a ceremony at the association's annual conference in Baltimore.
The 109th earned the award for achieving the best overall combat readiness rating and for its performance compared to all other Air Guard flying units. The award is named in honor of Gen. Carl S. Spaatz, a former Air Force chief ...
