COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--Sep. 17--Principal Financial Group will move most of its Colorado Springs operations to lower-cost areas in a restructuring that will trigger transfers or layoffs for 280 of its 315 local employees.
The Des Moines, Iowa-based insurance giant will begin moving the operations in April and complete the transfer by the end of 1997, said Mary O'Keefe, a Principal spokeswoman in Des Moines. Most employees would be offered transfers, but those who refuse to move will receive severance packages to entice them to remain with Principal until the move, she said.
