Sir Michael Marmot, PhD, MPH, MBBS, FRCP, FFPHM, FMedSci, is chair of the World Health Organization's Commission on Social Determinants of Health, which was launched in March 2005 and brings together some of the world's leading scientists and practitioners to address the social conditions that shape people's health.
