L.A. COUNTY - Citing financial concerns and a dearth of bids, Los Angeles County Health Services Director Mark Finucane said last week he will delay privatizing the remaining county-operated health centers until funding is secured for potential operators.
The county had planned to privatize 22 health centers by July 1, the start of the 1997 fiscal year, with contracts announced by May 31. Six health centers were privatized by three privately funded community clinic operators late last year.
However, privatization bids were received for only 14 centers, and the department has deemed just two as viable, Finucane said.
