A key Midland commuter route is to be renamed after a footballing hero.

Dudley Southern Bypass will be renamed Duncan Edwards Way under new proposals.

Street name signs will be replaced as part of the move by Dudley Council.

The Mayor of Dudley, Coun Ray Burston, has put forward the idea, which is expected to be formally backed by the council.

Dudley-born Edwards, one of Manchester United and England's finest footballers, died in 1958 from injuries received in the Munich Air Disaster, aged just 21.
