Q How does one get the awful odor of cigarette smoke out of walls, rugs, furniture and fixtures? A Because nicotine is a water-based chemical, washing all the surfaces and laundering all textiles in the house will go a long way toward eliminating cigarette odor. That would include cleaning drapes and upholstered furniture. Then consider treating the area with a fragrance-free odor eliminator (not an air freshener -- labeling for these products can be confusing).
