Sen. Steven A. Geller is shepherding a measure through the legislature that he says would repeal a provision in the state constitution enacted in the early years of the last century that was intended to keep Asian immigrants from owning farmland.
Senate Joint Resolution 166 would amend Art. I, [section]2 of the Florida Constitution to delete provisions authorizing the legislature to regulate or prohibit the ownership, inheritance, disposition, and possession of real property by aliens ineligible for citizenship. The Senate Judiciary Committee moved the legislation without opposition March 9.
