With adoption of the UN resolution and the British removing their opposition to it, a new European Union military operation is set to get under way by December to combat acts of piracy in Somalia's waters. Under pressure from the merchant navy and the public opinion, the UK government waived its opposition to what will constitute the first naval operation (EuNav) under the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP). Administrative and operational planning can now be accelerated.
