Insurer's 1996 net income may hit $100 million

WOODLAND HILLS - 20th Century Industries Inc. is a stellar example of how quickly things can change from one year to the next - or even from one day to the next.

In particular, that day for the automobile and homeowner insurer was Jan. 17, 1994 - the date of the Northridge earthquake.

When the shaking subsided, 20th Century's Woodland Hills headquarters was left heavily damaged. For months, the company mulled over the idea of moving before finally deciding to stay put. Repairs were completed only last November.

Meanwhile, 20th Century's employees were wholly focused on recovering.
