When Wendy Bibbs, a production worker at Landia Plastics in Solvay, N. Y., became the fourth person in just over a year to suffer an amputation of the plant, religious leaders expressed outrage.
Bibbs lost part of her finger on Aug. 16 Thirteen days later, on Aug. 29, auxiliary Bishop Thomas J. Costello of Syracuse and more than a dozen other reliqious leaders issued a call to community action at a news conference outside the plant.
