When J. J. Thomson discovered the electron in 1897, no one knew what to do with it--it had no practical applications. Today, we have an entire world run by electronics and many still wonder how something as small as the electron could have such a huge impact. That was my first impression of the PCB industry.

Now, I'm not saying that the PCB industry is small, but I have heard it referred to as a niche market more than a couple of times. Again, it's not the relative size of the PCB market, but the impact. PCBs are the foundation, both literally and figuratively, of this new electronic world.
