SAN DIEGO--Oct. 7--Mabee is betting his proactive publicity campaign will pay off in keeping the state Department of Insurance from penalizing Golden Eagle Insurance, the local company he founded in 1984.
Insurance regulators last month filed a report showing that Golden Eagle had a reserve deficiency of $138.5 million. But Mabee said he recently commissioned four actuary reports that prove Golden Eagle has plenty of reserves.
Despite the fact the insurance company has until Monday to file a plan detailing how it will boost reserves, Mabee is traveling the state speaking to insurance agents about his company's plight and urging them not to give ...
