NEW YORK -- Saks Fifth Avenue and Dickson Concepts have already expressed interest in taking over the bankrupt Barneys New York, but there's a serious new name in the hunt: Neiman Marcus Group.
Neiman's, as reported, has been mentioned in passing as a logical suitor, but compared to Saks, Neiman's was coy about the possibility.
And while it's not exactly a bidding war yet, Saks and Neiman's are said to be fearful that the other might take over the Barneys chain and lay claims to its rich lineup of designer labels.
Now, coy has given way to courtship, as Neiman's and Saks anxiously woo creditors, Isetan Co. Ltd and other parties in the Barneys case.
