About a year ago Richard Bowman launched William Blair & Co.'s private equity fundraising business in Texas. At the time a number of large buyout firms were closing multi-billion dollar funds and institutional investors like California Public Employees' Retirement System planned to increase their alternative asset allocations.
The M&A market was healthy and the money-raising business couldn't have looked brighter. These days the private equity funding business is, of course, a bit dimmer but it's not one without opportunity, says Bowman.
